A certified counselor administers the counseling program at Seton. The counselor serves as a key resource person to the Advisor/Advisee Program and is available to all students and parents on an individual and/or small group basis. Parents are encouraged to contact the counselor with student concerns.
At Seton, the Advisor/Advisee Program is known as S.T.A.R. (Student Teacher Advisory and Recreation). This daily program is one of the main responsibilities of the counselor. It includes guidance themes and programs, recreational activities, speakers, videos and presentations that reinforce a particular theme, usually related to character education.
Other responsibilities of the counselor include classroom guidance, individual and group counseling, all done on an as needed basis. The counselor administers all standardized testing, plans team building days and mini courses, attends parent/teacher conferences as needed, develops an annual career unit for the 8th grade and implements an approved AODA (Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse) program at each grade level.
The incentive program at Seton involves a token system known as the STAR/EAGLE program. EAGLE stands for Every Achievement Generates Lots of Excitement. This program, also organized by the counselor, recognizes personal achievement and positive behavior. Students receive these awards in both academic and nonacademic areas.
For more information about the guidance program at Seton, please contact Mrs. Mary Lou Kalaus, Seton Counselor and Campus Minister.
