Grade Point Average
Grade point averages are calculated on a 4.0 scale. They are calculated each semester and are cumulative.
Edline
Edline is an online resource through which parents can monitor their childís academic progress. Teachers post current homework, quiz and test grades and may post homework assignments and links to helpful sites. Students and parents are given access to the program by using secure passwords. Edline can also be used to send homework from the student's home computer to the student's file at school. Visit Edline.
Midterm Progress Reports
Progress reports are mailed to parents at mid-quarter. A detailed account will be included for specific classes in which the student has a grade of 77% or below. Questions concerning grades should be addressed to the instructor.
Report Cards
Report cards are distributed at the end of each quarter. Following the second and fourth quarter, a semester grade is given which is recorded on the permanent record.
Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences
Student/Parent/Teacher conferences are mandatory and held twice a year. Parents will be contacted, however, whenever a teacher feels it is necessary to discuss a studentís progress. Parents are likewise encouraged to request a conference at any time if they have specific concerns.
Student-Teacher-Parent Communication
Our goal at SMC is open communication through which students, parents, and teachers work together in a Christian atmosphere. The St. Mary Central Administration asks students, parents, and teachers to maintain open lines of communication using the following understandings:
- Teachers are required to be available to the students and/or parents and candidly address any problems or concerns. Students and parents are encouraged to communicate directly with the teacher.
- Students or parents who have questions or concerns should contact the teacher during normal school hours if possible, or immediately before or after school.
- Meetings with students and/or parents will be conducted in a private setting. In the majority of cases, the student/parent and teacher should strive to arrive at an amiable solution to questions and concerns.
- Communication by all parties will be carried out in a Christian, mature manner.
- If the student, parents, and teacher cannot mutually agree upon a satisfactory solution, the subject should then be brought to the attention of the principal.
- Parents can assist the teacher and principal by being encouraging, supportive, and positive role models.
