 SMC Selecting & Registering

Selecting Courses
St. Mary Central students and their parents are encouraged to meet with the guidance counselor during planning conferences scheduled each year to assure they are on track for graduation and post-secondary plans. Each student is provided with a course description booklet that lists and describes curricular offerings at the school.

Registering for Classes
For Freshmen
Registration for incoming freshmen is held in early spring of the eighth grade year. Guidance office personnel are available to assist students and parents in making the transition to high school. All course selections require parental signature. A non-refundable registration fee is charged at the time of registration.

For Continuing Students
Course rosters for the following year are determined in the spring. All course selections require parental signature prior to school approval. Changes made after spring will allowed under special circumstances. The principal will make the final determination as to whether or not the request will be honored.

For Transfer Students
All students transferring into SMC must have an academic conference with the principal before their registration process is complete. Course selections are based upon previous academic achievements. New students must provide SMC an official copy of their transcript before course selections may be determined. Course selection for transfer students and freshmen occur on an "as needed" basis during mid August; appointments are essential since the guidance office is otherwise closed during that time period.
