 SMC Guidance Program

A Comprehensive Counseling Program

"The guidance department is all about helping students understand the connection between school and their future goals and dreams. School is much more than just academics. Every student needs to grow socially and intellectually. To best help our students, we meet with students and their families at each grade level."
- Cindy Nelson, SMC Guidance Counselor

Ninth Grade
The ninth grade meetings are held in November. The emphasis is on adjusting to high school, getting involved, understanding a new grading system and beginning the career exploration process.

Tenth Grade
Tenth grade meetings are held in March. At this time, PLAN results are available, we are scheduling for the next school year and students are beginning to have a clearer picture of what career path they may be heading down.

Eleventh Grade
Junior meetings are held in late January and February. PSAT results are explained, post-secondary options are discussed, transcripts and test scores are reviewed, the senior schedule is considered and career paths are narrowed.

Twelfth Grade
Senior meetings are held in September. These conferences concentrate on post-secondary details ñ applications, scholarships, financial aid, work opportunities and career choices.
