 SMC Parent Involvement

There are many ways for parents to get involved at SMC, including those listed below.

SMC truly appreciates the dedication and commitment shown by every parent and community volunteers. At times it is appropriate to give special recognition to a person who has gone far beyond expectations with the talents, time and treasure they generously contribute to St. Mary Central High School.

SMC Booster Club
It's not just about sports! Getting involved in the SMC Booster Club is a great way to meet other parents while supporting a wide variety of Zephyr athletic and co-curricular activities. The club's activities and fundraisers support 21 school activities, ranging from sports teams to EARTH. Visit the SMC Booster Club webpage for more information and to find out how YOU can help support Zephyr teams and organizations.

Fine Arts Connection
SMC Fine Arts Connection is a parent group that provides support for music and drama-related activities. The music parents' annual fruit drive helps to subsidize SMC band and choir trips and activities.

The drama parents help the SMC students to organize the performances of live theater productions and musicals. From costume management to helping with concessions, tickets and flower sales on the nights of performances, parent involvement is an important component of the success of SMC productions.

For further information, contact Michael Bailey, Vocal Director at 920-722-7796, ext. 601 or Dave Sawall, Instrumental Director at 920-722-7796, ext. 600.

Library / Information Media Center (IMC)
Can you give a couple of hours each month to provide assistance in overseeing student use of the library? If so, please contact SMC librarian Anne Shelley at 920-722-7796, ext. 113. All necessary training will be provided.

Are you a member of a local adult book club? Would your group be willing to donate copies of your club's reading selections to the SMC fiction/nonfiction collections? Several very generous adults have gifted SMC in the past with gently used adult fiction and non-fiction titles. Once again, we are looking to add to our collection.

Please contact the librarian, Anne Shelley, if you have any questions about donating your adult-level books.

Faith Experiences
Opportunities for worship include Mass at 7:10 a.m. every Wednesday and Eucharistic Adoration on the first Friday of each month (both in the school chapel) and monthly all-school liturgies in the Commons. Watch the daily bulletin and Zephyr Express for specific details.

Parent leaders are an integral part of the faith formation retreats that occur each year. Please contact Mr. Mark Constancio for more information.

Technology & Engineering Club (TEC)
The St. Mary Central Technology and Engineering Club (TEC) is a co-curricular technology education program. At TEC, students design and build robots for competition in the VEX robotics program for high schools.Parental help is welcome--parents with technical knowledge may consider volunteering their time to work with students on their projects; others may like to plan or work at fundraising events, or help to plan the trips to competitions. There is something to do for every student or parent who would like to be involved. Contact Greg Cheslock for more information.

TCCES Board of Education
The Twin City Catholic Educational System (TCCES) Board is composed of volunteer board members from within the TCCES schools and supporting parish communities. It is an opportunity for adults to exercise their leadership in the Catholic ministry of education. The pastors of the supporting TCCES parishes appoint the board members.

Your Student's Educational Experience
Parents are encouraged to attend the parent/teacher/student conferences that are held each semester. This is an opportunity for parents to meet their child's teachers, find out about classroom expectations and homework, as well as the child's progress in the class.

Parents and students are expected to attend together a private session each year with SMC's guidance counselor to assess the student's progress, address any concerns and plan and for the future. For more information, contact SMC's guidance counselor Jennifer Whiting.
