SMC A Word from Our Principal
Hello to All!
As you enter the front doors of St. Mary Central High School, you cannot help but notice the words "Be it known to all who enter that Christ is the reason for this school." Please take some time to get to know us and see how we live out our mission in the contemporary world.
A core component of St. Mary Central (SMC) is community. With a common focus, we all (staff, students, families) learn and grow together. Our academic tradition is solid, as evidenced by the paths taken by our graduates. While here, students learn in a supportive Catholic atmosphere where they are personally known and are challenged individually to grow spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally. This support and challenge is critical as young people today are constantly bombarded by conflicting messages about what is acceptable in our society. As a parent, when you send your child to SMC, you can be assured that every staff member will provide a positive role model and will take a personal interest in helping him/her to be the best.
Additionally, students who attend SMC will experience:
- the opportunity to grow in their own faith lives as each person moves to a more mature spirituality;
- the opportunity to develop a sense of service to peers, to the school community, to the greater civic community, and to the Church;
- a wide range of academic programs (including advanced coursework in many disciplines), co-curricular activities, and athletic programs;
- a low student : teacher ratio which allows for more personalized instruction;
- a well-qualified and dedicated faculty; and
- innovation with our One to One Laptop initiative.
We are also very proud of our students' accomplishments in the areas of music, drama, and athletics. Frequently, SMC students find themselves rising to the level of regional, state, and national competitions.
If you are considering SMC for your son or daughter, please explore this website, make a personal visit and talk to staff, other parents, students, and alumni. I know you will become an advocate as you come to know us.
Finally, please do not let cost deter you. St. Mary Central is part of Twin City Catholic Educational System (TCCES), which believes that no child should be denied the opportunity for a Catholic education because of financial obstacles. Many families take advantage of financial assistance plans.
