St. Gabriel Band

TCCES elementary students are fortunate to begin band in fourth grade. At the end of the third grade year, they have the opportunity to try different instruments. With the assistance of their parents and band director Mr. Larry Orth, students select the instrument that interests them most.

During the first semester of their fourth grade year, students have individual or group lessons to learn how to play their new instruments. In the second semester, they join the fifth graders in biweekly band classes, while continuing individual and small group instruction.

The fifth grade year involves bi-weekly band classes and individual or small group lessons, as well as a Christmas concert.

All concerts, contests and performances incorporate the fourth and fifth grade bands from the three TCCES elementary schools. Students gather for a single large group practice prior to performing.

Performance opportunities include a fifth grade Christmas concert and combined TCCES 4th and 5th grade appearances at the TCCES Celebration of the Arts, the Fox Valley Christian Band Association's (FVCBA's) contest and a spring concert for parents and families. In addition, all fifth graders are expected to perform a solo or group piece at Seton's solo and ensemble competition.

Traditionally, every other year the combined fourth and fifth grade bands travel to the Music in the Parks competition in Gurnee, Illinois, where they compete with other bands from across the Midwest and enjoy a day at Great America.

A fee of $150.00 per year is assessed for participation in band. Assistance is available.
