Junior Zephyrs Basketball Club Overview
OVERVIEW
The Junior Zephyrs Basketball Club (JZBC) was created by and is a sub-committee of the Twin City Catholic Education System Board of Trustees and Athletic Committee. The program is designed to give interested students an opportunity to play basketball games aside from the regular school season and to prepare them for the future.
Teams are identified and organized for boys and girls in grades 3 to 8. The teams will compete in selected regional basketball tournaments from November through April. Tournaments will not conflict with the school basketball season. Members of the St. Mary Central (SMC) boys and girls basketball coaching staff assist the program with coaching selection, player evaluation and team practices.
GOALS
The goal of the JZBC is to offer prospective SMC students an opportunity to excel at competitive basketball by developing individual and team skills and fostering positive attitudes and teamwork. This will serve to build the self-esteem and self-confidence of each participant.
ELIGIBILITY
The Junior Zephyrs tournament basketball teams are regional teams intended as a feeder program for the highly successful St. Mary Central High School girls and boys basketball programs. All students attending TCCES schools are invited and encouraged to participate. An invitation has also been extended to students from other SMC feeder schools that may have an interest in attending St. Mary Central High School.
COST
Registration fees for the program are $70-$90 depending on grade level. This includes fees for three to five tournaments at each age level. Players will wear a Junior Zephyr uniform that will be furnished and returned at the end the season. No player will be denied to play due to the inability to pay. Financial assistance is available. Please contact the JZBC chair.
RESPONSIBILITY AND TIME COMMITMENTS
Attendance to practices and games is expected. We understand circumstances may necessitate missing occasional practices or games and can be flexible. Practice times and location are determined by team.
